Grand Prairie Technology

1. Grand Prairie School has two full computer labs available to all students. The ELC is where all students, Kindergarten through Grade 2, will be learning a wide variety of technology skills. Every student will use the lab, where all will gain vital computer skills and where computer use will help them to enhance classroom learning.

2. A second computer lab is available in the purple community hallway where teachers can take classes to work on programs that will also help to supplement curriculum.

3. Each classroom contains a mini lab of networked PCs, where computer applications are made available for student use.

Thanks to the Education Foundation

We have 30 wireless “Alpha Smart” word processors that will be used by many!

Software includes these types of applications:

• Drawing and Painting

• Dictionaries

• Encyclopedias

• Mathematics

• Reading Enrichment

• Logic and Reasoning

• Keyboarding

• Word Processing and Graphic Organizers

• Atlas and Maps

• Internet access

Our school has Internet access. We also use a sophisticated Firewall program, which filters out unseemly materials and sites. This program is updated on a regular basis, supporting our efforts to make every child’s Internet experience safe and positive. In classrooms and labs, at the primary level, staff will find sites and bookmark them for students. This is one more way to insure that students only arrive at the sites that we have determined are appropriate. Most of the sites that we access here at school are available just as easily from any home computer. Students will learn how to access the district website, click on Grand Prairie School and then on the blue TECHNOLOGY link. Here they will find links to some wonderfully educational sites. Every student will need to have parental permission to use the Internet at school. Please be assured that unsupervised “surfing” will never be allowed.
